Edits are hard. (That’s what she said.)

*Sorry, I couldn’t resist.*

But in all seriousness, edits are hard. Really hard. And they’re taking forever. At least, it seems that way.

In addition to the usual continuity issues and plot holes that need to be filled in any first draft, and the general word-smithing that must happen before I feel good about the work, I’ve had to completely rewrite several scenes in SANYARE to change points of view and add tension. I think the end result will be much stronger than my initial effort, but it means more time in the workshop before I ask for feedback.

If I had to guess, I would say that I’m about 75% of the way through the first edits. For those of you who are anxiously waiting to beta read for me, I apologize for the delay. I should be done by the end of March, if not sooner. I’m not going to give a specific day for fear of missing the deadline and becoming frustrated with myself, but I’m writing every day and reaching for that elusive light at the end of the tunnel.

If you haven’t yet done so, please sign up for my newsletter. You’ll receive my latest blog posts in a weekly email, as well as any announcements or freebies related to SANYARE. You can even volunteer to become a beta reader, and be directly involved in perfecting the story before publication.

Thanks for your patience! Now it’s back to work.

  1. Mwah ha hahrgh! You’re not alone. I’ve just had to put my book launch back 3 months! And it’s alreaady 18 months late.

    • Ugh. So frustrating! But it’s going to take as long as it takes…at least, that’s what I keep telling myself. My bigger fear is releasing something that’s not as good as I think it can be.

      • Amen to that. I employ a really excellent copy editor and he read the draft of 3 and 4 and told me the baddie was just too depraved to take in. So I’ve gone back to the drawing board and made him colder and more controlled and the result is something harder, nastier and far far more of a bad guy than any of my attempts to make him really bad had achieved. So it’s worth doing and I just go back to that Wendig post when I get pissed off and tell myself “it takes as long as it takes.”
